Costs are very reasonable, and scholarships are available! Tuition
is about $20 per month. Uniform fees, retreat fees and tour costs are
extra. We wish to provide the chorus experience to every eligible
child, regardless of their economic situation.

MICHAEL KING, Founder and
Music Director
Michael is the
Director of Music Ministries at Ridgewood Park United Methodist Church
in Dallas. Previously he served as Director of Music at First United
Methodist Church of DeSoto and First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster.
A noted music educator, groups under Mr. King’s direction have performed
in over 30 states and 7 countries, including Carnegie Hall (1997) and
the White House (1998). Michael has previously served as a union
musician performing on piano and/or synthesizer with the Dallas Summer
Musicals and other theatre organizations both in DFW and beyond. Some
of the shows he has played include Wicked, Gypsy,
Hello Dolly, and Cabaret, among others. A native
of Irving, TX, he was educated at the University of North Texas and
Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ. Mr. King is Past President
of the Irving Music Teachers Association, past Vice President for
Student Affairs and Board Member of the Texas Music Teachers
Association, and former National Competitions Coordinator for the Music
Teachers National Association. He founded the Southwest Children’s
Chorus in 1999 and has led the organization through nine
highly-successful years.
KRISTI HASSELL, Associate Director
Kristi Hassell is the Interim Director of Music at First United
Methodist Church of DeSoto and has been involved in choral music most of
her life as a soloist, choir member, handbell player, and pianist. With
a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Texas in Arlington,
she has taught music to children for 15 years. She is a member of Early
Childhood Music and Movement Association and Chorister's Guild and has
begun work on United Methodist Certification in Church Music.
Kristi
loves singing, reading, gardening, crafting, and cooking. She is active
in the community with Girl Scouts and Special Olympics. She also
teaches Kindermusik classes and home schools her daughter. She lives in
Red Oak with her husband and daughter.
