The SOUTHWEST
CHILDREN’S CHORUS
is an internationally-traveled 501c3 non-profit organization based in DeSoto, Texas that has developed itself into one of the finest
children’s chorus programs of its kind. The children in the
organization represent every city in Southwest Dallas and Ellis County
and are ages 8 to 14. Through its affiliation with Chorus America and
the International Federation of Choral Music, the Chorus has earned its
place among an international coalition of children’s choirs. Through
its music activities, the non-profit organization helps to foster the
personal and social growth of its members and promotes their sense of
self-esteem, accomplishment and pride.
The auditioned group
consists of three separate choirs: the Preparatory Choir, the Concert
Choir and the Tour Choir. The Tour Choir has performed across the world
in 27 states in addition to Austria, Canada, Germany, Hungary, Italy and
Switzerland. In 2006, the Choir presented a special concert tour
throughout Central Europe in celebration of the 250th
birthday of Mozart. The Chorus receives regular invitations to perform
in Carnegie Hall and has performed in every major venue in the
Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and across the state of Texas.
Here at home,
the choir has performed for Bethlehem Revisited in Waxahachie,
“Candlelight” at Dallas Heritage Village, “Holiday in the Park” at Six
Flags over Texas, NorthPark Center, the Majestic Theatre, Bass Hall and
the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. The Chorus recently performed
for a benefit gala for Dallas CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates
for Children) at the Hilton Anatole in addition to Children’s Medical
Center’s “Distinguished Service to Children Award Gala” at the Hyatt
Regency Dallas. National anthems have been performed by the group for
games of the Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Stars and the Texas Rangers. As
a guest of the Moscow Ballet, the choir has performed for the group’s
production of the Nutcracker and on Christmas Eve 2007, the choir was
invited to perform their holiday repertoire live on KDFW Fox 4’s “Good
Day Dallas”.
The Chorus is
led by Michael King, Artistic Director and Founder, along with Assistant
Director Kristi Hassell and Staff Accompanist Sheree Bayless.

Our Goals
The goal of the Southwest Children's Chorus is
to provide any child, regardless of previous musical experience, with an
outstanding performance-based music education program offered in a positive and
nurturing environment. The Choir endeavors to foster the personal and social
growth of its members and to promote their sense of self-esteem, accomplishment,
and pride. Furthermore, we strive to contribute to the cultural life of
this area, the state of Texas, the nation, and the world. The SWCC also
hopes to increase the quality of singing in area schools and churches by
providing an organization which can excel beyond the experience in average
school or church choirs. Membership is open to children of ALL racial, cultural,
religious, and economic backgrounds, based on an audition with the Music
Director.
